Ministries of Old Goshenhoppen

By God’s grace, the life of our congregation flows from the Lord’s Day: the Word preached, the Lord’s Supper and prayer. From there we strive to grow in Christ together and to serve our neighbors.

The ordinary means of grace

Christ builds His church

“I will build my church,” said our Lord, “and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18). The church is His work before it is ever ours. He gathers, feeds and keeps His people through ordinary means: the preaching of His Word, the sacraments and prayer.

So the heart of every ministry here is the Lord’s Day. Our other gatherings are not programs to fill a calendar. They are ways we strive, by God’s grace, to take the Word we hear on Sunday into our homes, our friendships and our community.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.Acts 2:42

The Oyster Picnic

Begun in 1877 as a fundraiser for the Sunday School, the picnic still fills the church grove each September: oysters raw, fried and stewed, Pennsylvania Dutch treats, bluegrass and Gemeinhaus tours. Proceeds benefit local charity and mission works.
