Our Pastors & Elders
Servants of the Word, called to shepherd the flock of God under Christ, the chief Shepherd.
Christ rules His church by His Word
Jesus Christ is the only Head of the church. He has not left His people without shepherds. In the New Testament the word for ‘elder’ is presbuteros, and the ordinary pattern Christ has given is a plurality of qualified men who shepherd the local congregation under His headship.
At Old Goshenhoppen Reformed Church we are an elder-led congregational church. This makes us a Presbyterian congregation in the German Reformed tradition, a simple, biblical government led by the church’s own elders, who are chosen and affirmed jointly by the congregation and a collective of elders from our own and other regional Bible-believing churches. We have built strong relationships with other faithful congregations in the area, and we believe this local model best honors the clear teaching of Scripture and helps guard the purity of the Gospel.
Pastors and elders do not stand above the congregation. They are sinners saved by grace alone, set apart to serve, and they will give an account to God for the souls in their care. Please pray for them.
Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.1 Peter 5:2–4

Andrew Zimmerman
Pastoral intern and director of youth and family ministry, serving alongside our pastors and elders.
Read biography
Andrew Zimmerman (Pastoral Intern, and director of youth and family ministry) was born in Philadelphia in 1985, where he remained until moving to Ambler in 2018. In 2012, he married his remarkably patient wife, Lindsey, after dating for 7 years (a number with solid biblical precedent). They have been happily wed ever since. Upon graduating from Temple University with a Bachelor’s in Art Education, Andrew was hired by the School District of Philadelphia where he is currently employed as a full-time art teacher. He later obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Cabrini college.
Ever since high-school, Andrew has served in ministry including, but not limited to, leading Bible studies, summer camps, children’s church and youth group. More recently, he has been blessed with the opportunity to preach regularly at Northeast Community Church and Mayfair Presbyterian in Philadelphia. Sensing an internal call to ministry that has been confirmed externally on numerous occasions, Andrew has enrolled in Reformed Theological Seminary’s Master of Divinity program.
As a natural-born skeptic who has experienced God’s mercy firsthand, Andrew wants to share the good news that has saved his life with others. In addition to discussing theology, philosophy and apologetics, Andrew’s interests include biking, illustration, reading, and writing. His favorite author is C.S. Lewis. Andrew also enjoys watching cartoons and reading comic books, probably for dignified academic purposes. Currently, Andrew is happy to worship and serve at Old Goshenhoppen.
Our elders
Men from within the congregation, chosen and affirmed to watch over the flock alongside our pastors, in prayer, in doctrine and in the care of souls.
- To shepherd the flock of God willingly and eagerly, as examples, not domineering.1 Peter 5:2–3
- To hold firm to the trustworthy word, able to teach sound doctrine and to correct error.Titus 1:9
- To keep watch over souls, as those who will give an account.Hebrews 13:17
- To pray over the sick and the suffering.James 5:14
How the church is governed
Christ is the Head. Under Him, the work of the church is shared among three groups of servants, each with its own care, so that the Word is preached, the flock is shepherded and needs are met.
Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.Acts 20:28
Ordained to preach and teach the Word, administer the sacraments, oversee worship and doctrine, and shepherd the members of the congregation.
Commissioned servants who care for the buildings and historic grounds entrusted to the congregation, together with the church’s practical affairs.
Deacons commissioned to serve the congregation and neighbors in need with mercy and practical help, in the name of Christ.
The Lord has kept His Word on Church Road
From Rev. George Michael Weiss, who first gave communion to the Goshenhoppen settlers, and Rev. John Philip Boehm, the congregation’s first pastor, to the present day, God has raised up ministers of His Word for this congregation for nearly three centuries.
Their names change. The message does not: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
Sit under the preaching of God’s Word
Worship is Sundays at 10:00 AM at 2092 Church Road, Harleysville. We would be glad to welcome you.
